What is Taralisu?
Taralisu is an attempt at so much for me as an author. Not just as an accomplishment of literature, but, also, as the beginning of a belief. In this book writers of the absurd and surreal face off against the writers of realism. The extremes of atheism and fanatical zealotry are revealed.
I have noticed a disturbing trend in the published: Real literature isn't getting on the shelves. Some are, although not nearly enough. Editors aren't evil, but they do have to make a living. The economy, as the time of this forward in America, is deplorable at best. When this sort of depression happens, I believe we must make a turn back to artistic appreciation. I don't mean thirty million dollar movies, either.
This book is a statement to readers and to the literary underground: support good literature. If romance books sell more copies than well thought out literature, then editors are going to pick up more romance authors.
I can't promise every literary attempt is going to be good. Indeed, there is little quality control in self-publication. Honestly, I can't even promise you that you'll find this book of literary merit. But, I can tell you I'm attempting something here alongside a young Fitzgerald and an unknown Kafka that, I believe, is what real artists should strive for.
It's something unique existing in every single one of us, begging to be pounded out with pen or paint. It is a desire for us to respect each other by the fruits we bare. It is a serious writer, a trying artist, a red-faced musician. It is literature. It is Taralisu.
